1996 Gary Fisher Big Sur

A 'shop-goat' that replaced my High Sierra at Spokes & Pedals in the final days. It was an abandoned repair job that eventually got cannibalized for parts. When I decided to take my personal bikes, including the Schwinn, home, I gathered enough spare parts of my own to make it road worthy once more. When the shop closed, I bought the frame officially, making the whole thing mine. Now it has gained some of the better parts from the High Sierra, making it my primary runabout. Mounting the Specialized front rack was especially fun. I had to use a pair of Fisher seatpost water bottle mounts, a pair of short rack braces twisted 90º, and a pair of padded rack mounting straps. Up close it looks a little odd and it is not capable of carrying the loads the rear rack can, but I don't want that much weight up front anyway. Fully loaded, I'll most likely have my small panniers and a mini-trunk (made out of a CD case) up there. Unlike the old Schwinn, I plan to some day take this on an extended tour. |
